Endo Quest
Endo Quest is a game designed to help you learn about Endometriosis in a fun and interactive way. While there is currently no cure for Endometriosis, it affects 1 in 10 people worldwide.
The game is played as a character named Evania who is a young Endometriosis patient in her early 20s, who is yet to be diagnosed conclusively. Each level educates the player on one aspect of Endometriosis.
There are information booths in each level. The player has to collect coins to open the information booths. When an information booth is opened, the player acquires a key. Each level has six booths to open and six keys to collect. All six keys are required to open the treasure chest at the end of the level.
When the treasure chest opens, a quiz appears to test the player on the information for that level. A score of 75% is required to open the portal that allows the player to progress to the next level.

Endo Quest Game Details
Below is a list of all the characters and objects in the game, as well as the game controls:

Evania
Evania is a 23-year-old woman who has been experiencing painful periods and possible symptoms of endometriosis for years but has never been diagnosed with endometriosis. She is confused and frustrated as she doesn’t know what’s going on in her body and keeps getting dismissed by certain doctors. She keeps being told that the pain is all in her head, keeps being put on contraceptives, and feels lost.
Evania is determined to learn more about what is going on because this naturally impacts her mental health and her day-to-day performance. She reads up about the possibility of having endometriosis. This game is her journey from initially hearing about endometriosis, to having enough knowledge for her to understand the illness and how to manage it in her daily life.
As you play Evania’s character, you will face hurdles which represent the hurdles that endometriosis patients face in their daily lives. The endometriosis itself is characterised by various demons or enemies in the game. Along the way, you will also uncover and learn about a hidden “sister condition” called Adenomyosis—another monster illness that brings its own unique challenges to the battle. Together, these conditions add to the complexity of the journey, but your strength and strategy will help you overcome them.
You start with 3 lives in each level and if any of the enemies, besides the fire monster, collide with you, you lose a life. You gain a life for every 15 demons you kill.

Game Controls
These are the touch controls used to control the game. The equivalent keyboard controls are listed in the gray boxes.

Spiky
Spiky represents the gastrointestinal struggles often associated with endometriosis, including IBS, constipation, diarrhoea, and the challenges of bowel endometriosis.
This monster embodies the pain, discomfort, and unpredictability that these symptoms can bring to daily life.
In the game, you can defeat Spiky by jumping on top of it or attacking it with your sword.
However, it’s important to remember that in real life, these symptoms, and conditions can’t be “killed” or resolved so easily. Managing them requires medical guidance, personalized care, and patience. Spiky’s presence in the game is a symbol of the fight many endure, while defeating it serves as a reminder of resilience and the importance of seeking the right treatment and support.

Fire Monster
The Fire Monster represents the silent yet relentless progression of endometriosis. It symbolizes how the condition worsens over time, especially during the years of misdiagnosis or lack of awareness. The symptoms it embodies are excruciating and debilitating, but its silent nature reflects the hidden toll endometriosis takes as it continues to progress undetected.
In the game, each time you bump into a Fire Monster, your “Endo Level” will increase, signifying how the condition silently worsens. If your Endo Level reaches 100, you will lose a life. This highlights the importance of timely diagnosis and awareness.
Unlike other monsters in the game, the Fire Monster cannot be defeated, emphasizing how endometriosis is a chronic condition that requires ongoing management rather than a single solution. However, by navigating skilfully and avoiding its attacks, you can minimize its impact, symbolizing the importance of awareness, self-advocacy, and proactive care in real life.

Egghead
Egghead represents the progression of endometriosis onto various organs, a hallmark of the condition’s complexity and severity.
This monster’s ability to fuse organs together mirrors the real-life complications caused by endometriosis, such as adhesions that bind organs and tissues, leading to pain and functional challenges.
In the game, you can defeat Egghead by jumping on top of it or attacking it with your sword.
However, it’s crucial to remember that defeating Egghead in the game is symbolic and not reflective of real life. In reality, managing the progression of endometriosis requires specialized medical care, patience, and support. The fight against Egghead in the game highlights the resilience needed to face this condition while offering players a moment of triumph.

Brainy
Brainy represents the mental health challenges that often accompany endometriosis, including anxiety, depression, and feelings of isolation. This monster symbolizes the overwhelming weight of these emotional struggles.
In the game, you can defeat Brainy by either jumping on top of it or attacking it with your sword.
However, it’s important to remember that in real life, mental health challenges don’t simply “go away” like they do in a game. Overcoming them requires compassion, patience, and the right support systems.
This gameplay mechanic serves as a metaphor to encourage players to address mental health with courage and resilience, while seeking help when needed.

Coins
Collect the coins as you play. You will need them to unlock the information in the information booths.

Coin Bricks
This is a special brick that you can jump and hit with your head from below to get coins. Each brick has a different number of coins. Keep jumping into it until the coins stop appearing, and the brick turns brown.

Breakable Bricks
This is a special brick that will break apart if you jump below it and hit it with your head. Be careful as sometimes breaking these blocks will prevent you from accessing certain areas.

Information Booth
These information booths contain information related to Endometriosis. There are six information booths in each level. Once unlocked you will get a key. Each information booth requires a certain number of coins to unlock. Once you unlock a booth, read the information, as you will require the knowledge to pass the quiz at the end of each level.

Keys
These are the keys that you get when you unlock an information booth. Each information booth you unlock turns one of the keys to purple. You have to collect all six keys to unlock the treasure chest in each level.

Treasure Chest
Once you collect all six keys, find the treasure chest and open it. You will get some coins added to your collection, and you will see a quiz appear next to the chest. You need to score 75% or more to pass the quiz. Once you pass the quiz, the portal to exit the level will activate.
